KTC Elite athletes spread across Central PA for races this past weekend
Up in Selinsgrove two KTC Elite athletes took to the track...and field! That's right, Mariah Smolka was out there in the field for us, taking first place in the women's shot put with a throw of 12.89m! On the track Jeffrey Skwierz took on 52 competitors in the 3000m and bested all but 3, finishing 4th in 9:11.61.
In Elizabethtown a trio of KTC Elite members took on the second race of the Frozen Foot series. In their hometown, Shawn Lake and Ben Kier, our newest member, each took top 5 spots in the race. Shawn took 2nd place in 15:33.9, and Ben finished 5th in 16:23.1. Showcasing the talent of the women's squad on KTC Elite was Emily Giannotti. Emily distanced herself from the nearest female by over 2 minutes, and broke the 17:00 barrier with an amazing 16:59.4! Shawn and Emily both bested their times from the first race of the Frozen Foot series a month ago. Shawn improved by a whopping 41 seconds, and Emily by 17 seconds. Both Shawn and Emily set new records for the club with their efforts.
Lastly, the ugly duckling of the group Tim Hartung set out on his first triathlon at the Carlisle YMCA's annual "Y Tri". Tim was able to post the best times in both the swim (800 yards in 11:57) and the run (5k in 16:45), but could not hang with the more seasoned athletes in the bike leg (12 miles in 35:24). With his good results in the swim and run, Tim was able to secure the second place. Yes, this was an indoor triathlon...we are not sure why Tim would opt to do such a thing, but hey, not a bad result!
