KTC Elite March Madness!

Technical difficulties have us a little bit behind on reporting results, so we have quite a few races to talk about here!

On March 5th, Mike Spooner debuted his spring season with an uncontested victory at Lily's Run at Bald Eagle State Park in Howard, PA. By the end of the race Spooner had opened up a 6 minute and 45 second lead over the second place finisher, covering the atypical 3.59 mile race in 19:03 for a 5:18/mile pace. The odd distance comes from the memory of Lily, a child lost to the genetic disorder Trisomy 18 on March 5, 2009. All proceeds from the race went to the Trisomy 18 Foundation and another family in the community with a child dealing with an illness requiring consistent medical attention. Way to get out there race well, and support the community Spooner!

Also on the 5th, Marina Orrson trudged her way through an adventure race that included climbing a ladder into the top of a barn and jumping down to some hay bails...and everyone thought Tim Hartung was crazy for doing an indoor triathlon. Marina finished 6th overall and was the 2nd female in the around 7 mile race.

The next week Ben Kier stepped up in distance quite a bit from his February 5k to a March Half Marathon. Ben finished 3rd at the Chambersburg Road Runner's Club Half Marathon in 1:17:47 for an 5:56/mile pace. Also that week Tommy Pearson showed us that he is getting into some good shape by getting back out on the roads with a 4th place finish at Run 4 Luck in Lancaster. Tommy finished the race in 21:00 averaging 5:15/mile.

This past weekend we had a trio of runners put together some awesome performances at the 4.5 mile Winter's End Run! Jeff Skwierz and Marina Orrson both took victories in the race for the second year in a row, this time as KTC Elite members. Jeff covered the course in a quick 23:43, and Marina was exactly 2 minutes behind at 25:43 finishing 3rd overall. Josey Rupert finished as the second female behind Marina, and 7th overall in 29:08. Rolling squad deep!
